Welcome to Our Guide on Apple Cider Vinegar

Here at Druce's Juices in the South West of England we are incredibly passionate about the humble apple. We love transforming our locally sourced English apples into fantastic flavours for you to enjoy. From our refreshing beverages to our raw apple cider vinegar we take pride in every step of the process.

Because we use single variety apples hand graded to ensure only sound fruit is pressed you will experience wonderful seasonal variations in flavour and cloudiness. We have been expertly trained by Keith Goverd who worked at the Long Ashton Research Centre where the process of pasteurising fruit beverages was developed. Keith went on to set up numerous individuals in production and investigated over 200 single varieties which is the largest collection known worldwide. Keith is very generous with his time and knowledge and is always on hand to help out with advice.

Today we want to share that passion by exploring the incredible health benefits of our raw vinegar and how it can easily become a part of your daily routine.

The Science Behind Apple Cider Vinegar and Gut Health

Gut health is a major topic in the wellness world today and for very good reason. Your digestive system plays a huge role in your overall wellbeing. Our raw apple cider vinegar is packed full of good things including beneficial bacteria. Because our product is raw and unpasteurised it retains these natural cultures. Introducing fermented products into your diet can help support a balanced microbiome which aids digestion and helps your body absorb nutrients more effectively.

Acetic Acid in Apple Cider Vinegar Explained

One of the main reasons this traditional remedy has been used to treat a wide variety of health ailments from acting as a disinfectant to a natural preservative is its acid content. Our raw apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid alongside lactic citric and malic acids.

Acetic acid is the active compound that gives the liquid its strong sour scent and flavour. Scientific studies suggest that acetic acid can help the body absorb important minerals from the food you eat. Furthermore it has antimicrobial properties that have been shown to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria.

Can Apple Cider Vinegar Help Lower Blood Sugar Levels?

One of the most compelling scientifically backed health benefits is its potential effect on blood sugar levels and managing diabetes. Multiple studies including research published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association have shown that consuming vinegar can improve insulin sensitivity during a high carbohydrate meal.

It is believed that the acetic acid blocks enzymes that digest starch which helps prevent blood sugar spikes after eating. For those looking to manage their blood sugar naturally adding a small amount of apple cider vinegar to a meal could be a very helpful supportive measure.

Exploring Apple Cider Vinegar and Heart Health

Heart disease is a leading cause of premature death worldwide so taking care of your cardiovascular system is vital. While much of the research on heart health is based on animal studies the results are promising. Studies indicate that apple cider vinegar may lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels which are known risk factors for heart disease. Furthermore the alpha linolenic acid present in the liquid has been observed in some studies to support better cardiovascular outcomes. While it is not a cure for heart conditions it can be a wonderful addition to a balanced and heart healthy diet.

Delicious Recipe Ideas Using Apple Cider Vinegar

Incorporating this wonderful ingredient into your daily routine is easier than you might think. Here are two simple and delicious ways to use our raw apple cider vinegar in your kitchen.

Morning Wellness Tonic Start your day with a refreshing drink. Mix one tablespoon of our raw vinegar into a large glass of warm water. Add a teaspoon of local honey and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Stir well and enjoy before breakfast to wake up your digestive system.

Zesty Salad Dressing Create a vibrant dressing for your greens. Whisk together three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and one tablespoon of our vinegar. Add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard a pinch of salt and some cracked black pepper. This pairs beautifully with fresh summer salads or roasted winter vegetables.

Sustainability and Crafting Our Apple Cider Vinegar

Running a sustainable business is really important to us and sustainability is at the heart of our operations. Our orchards are not sprayed and no chemicals have been used in either of our orchards for at least 30 years. We look at the whole ecosystem of the orchard to ensure good health in the trees land and surrounding wildlife. We keep clumps of nettles to encourage insects ensure good spacing between trees allow some mistletoe to remain and we are currently looking at introducing bird and bat boxes to encourage biodiversity.

Zero waste is our goal. The apple pomace left over from pressing goes to the grateful pigs on the farm next door. We can take back bottles to be cleaned and reused. Our labels are made out of cardboard which hugely minimises the amount of plastic backing from sticker labels as well as making it feasible to reuse bottles. The labels themselves can also be reused if they survive in good condition and the bottle lids can be recycled.

Our bottled juice is safely stored in wooden crates that date back to pre 1971 when they had a deposit of one penny on them. They have been patched and repaired but have truly stood the test of time. All of our juice is sold locally at the Bath farmers market Xero Waste shops in Clifton Village Nailsea and Portishead and local farm shops. You can see our stockists for full details. Because we deliver everything ourselves minimal food miles are involved.
